Commitment To child safety
Nara is committed to implementing and abiding by our Child Safe Environment Policy based on Victoria’s Child Safe Standards. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated seriously and consistently.
We are dedicated to promoting a child safe environment, maintaining childrenʼs wellbeing. We adhere to our mandatory reporting responsibilities to protect children from physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse and neglect.
Child safety at Nara means we:
ensure there is clear awareness about appropriate and inappropriate behaviour concerning adults and children
value diversity and do not tolerate any discriminatory practices
are committed to ongoing professional development for staff and Committee of Management to ensure they are proactive in their responsibilities to keep children safe
adhere to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and have confidence in educating children about their right to be safe
teach children what to do if they feel unsafe and encourage them to express their views and thoughts on matters that directly affect them
listen to and empower children to act on any concerns they or others may raise.
Our commitment to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children
At Nara we are committed to actively supporting Aboriginal children and their families to:
fully participate in an educational program that celebrates Aboriginal culture and identity
express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights.
identify as Aboriginal without fear of retribution or questioning
maintain connection to their kinship ties and Country
be taught their cultural heritage by Elders.
We facilitate regular training and education for our staff on Aboriginal cultures and cultural safety. We have policies, procedures, systems and processes to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment and to meet the needs of Aboriginal children and their families.
Road safety education
Nara’s curriculum includes the National Practices for Road Safety Education, to help children and their families learn about road safety. These practices have been developed by early childhood education and road safety experts across Australia and New Zealand and are aligned to the Early Years Learning Framework.
